Welcome to the Live Animals Regulations training course. This course is based on the latest IATA Live Animals Regulations manual (LAR).
The goal of this course is not to train participants to memorize the contents of the LAR, but rather to teach you the key points that you should be familiar with in your daily activities transporting live animals and how to use the LAR as a reference tool to support you in the field.
This course workbook is structured to mirror the chapters and sub-sections in the LAR. This means that if you are working on subsection 5.3 of Module 5 of this workbook, the corresponding reference material in the LAR will be subsection 5.3 of Chapter 5.
As you progress through each module, you will find high level learning points for some topics and more detailed explanations for key learning points. You will be asked to reference the LAR when required to read more details or for an expanded view of the topic. After each subsection of a module, you will find a “Study Check” which will ask you to draw on newly acquired knowledge while referencing this course workbook and the Live Animals Regulations to answer questions.
Enjoy the course!
Before you begin this course, take time to familiarize yourself with the terms and definitions used in the IATA Live Animals Regulations manual. The Nomenclature section of the LAR reviews the terminology as well as the meanings of symbols and abbreviations used throughout the LAR manual.
In the Live Animal Regulations, the words “shall” and “must” are used to indicate a mandatory requirement. The words “should” and “may” indicate a preferred requirement and are not binding.
The following symbols placed against any portion of these Regulations indicate a change from the previous edition:
